How does the K&N 63-9025 increase horsepower? By eliminating airflow obstruction in your engine. Restriction of air flow between an air filter and an engine robs even the most powerful engine of horsepower. K&N air intake kits virtually eliminate air path restriction by replacing the standard air filter and the entire air path to the engine. The aerodynamically engineered conduit that makes up the 63-9025 drives a massive amount of air into an engine, which translates into power. This conduit begins with an oversized conical high-flow air filter. This larger filter can fit into the engine compartment using factory holes and mounting points because the K&N 63-9025 replaces your stock intake tube, and air box. This provides more airflow at lower restriction than a standard filter, limited by the size of the factory air box. The oversize air filter also captures and holds more dirt, increasing the service life before a cleaning is required (up to 100,000 miles). The filter is also isolated from high engine temperature by a heat shield designed to lower the temperature of the air entering the engine, which increases horsepower. The filter is attaches to a rotationally molded tube made from nonmetallic interlaced high density polyethylene (HDPE). This allows for precision shaping of the tube to reduce turbulence and accelerate airflow into the engine. This is why some K&N tubes have unique shapes or indentations that are specifically engineered for each engine configuration. Finally, the tube is connected to the engine with adapters made from high strength materials such as silicon and reinforced nylon and ensures long life. I ordered my K&N air intake kit on Wednesday and I received it the following Monday using 2-day shipping I got for free for trying the Amazon Prime trial thing. Everything was in perfect condition and all of the parts were in the box. The instructions were great - each step has its own picture so that helped a lot. The only tools I needed were some screwdrivers, a rachet and a few sockets, and a couple allen wrenches, and it took me about 2.5 hours to install everything. Definitely noticed a difference in the sound and the acceleration response, which is exactly what I was going for. I know there are other cheaper intake kits out there but I got the K&N because they're the best brand and you can't beat a million mile warranty. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Installed on a 2005 Tacoma.
Install was simple with easy to follow instructions. My truck was a little different then the directions but no big deal. Everything fits in and works fine, very clean install.
Hard to tell if there is a performance gain. It seems like I use less pedal and it feels more responsive. It seems like my boat pulls a little easier too. I would not argue the 10 hp gain.
If you like your quiet truck, this is not for you. When you get on the pedal or are going up hill, it can get really loud! However, in most normal driving it's not that noticable. Personally I like the growl!
It's not advertised to save fuel, but mine does. I get about 2 mpg more then before. I watch my miles pretty close and do the math at each fill up. Before install I got 19-20mpg consistently, now I get 21-22 (3-4 fill ups now).
Overall I'm very happy with it and would reccomend it to anyone looking to add more horsepower, save money on future air filters, and save some gas money.

This is an awesome intake! The sound is instantly noticeable and can be a bit intimidating! My chief complaint would be the instructions-- I must've gotten a different set than the other reviewers because mine were garbage. Sure there were pictures for every step, but they were small and in black and white. Hard to really tell what you're looking for unless you know the truck inside out. However, installation was a breeze! took a little less than an hour and a half. Everything bolts up perfectly and fits like it came from the factory this way. Highly recommended as a quick, easy power adder to ANY vehicle.

This product was a joy to install. It included every part needed, a clear, concise photo detailed step-by-step procedure, and even a list of the simple tools required. All parts were of the highest quality and the installation fit was equal to or better than factory original.
It operates just as advertised, however without a engine dyno it hard to qualify horsepower but the acceleration pull feels stronger than stock, albeit with a healthy intake roar. Not for the timid.

The only reason I did not give this product the five stars is that I haven't had a noticeable increase in my mileage (only a slight one); and I've been keeping track of my mileage pretty closely for the few months prior to installing the K&N and since. That could be because I haven't really done much longer distance easier driving lately, mostly back and fourth to work. But there are a lot of positives for this product.
Specs on my truck to start: I have a 2009 Tacoma V6 (it did fit perfectly despite the amazon tool telling me that it would not), with the six speed manual transmission, 4x4 TRD, and a camper shell.
- There was a very nice increase in the felt power when I throttle up.
- The sound my truck makes is very nice, but not nearly as loud as I was worried it would be. In fact it's not noticeable until I push a little extra on the throttle. Which is nice for longer journeys, there isn't a constant loud drone.
- The responsiveness of my truck also has improved, the truck had 'pep' before but now it's real nice!
- It was really easy to install with the help of a friend and really 'opened' up the space under the hood of my truck. Took us a little less time then suggested.
All in all, a great product! Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a mid-"price-range" item to increase the performance of their Tacoma. I'm looking forward to putting an aftermarket exhaust on the truck next.
