Product Description E3 has taken the best features from traditional spark plugs, such as cut-back ground electrodes and surface gaps, and combined them to create a new ground electrode design.á Surface gap plugs present the flame kernel to the piston (or rotor) more directly, reducing the travel time from the spark to the combustion gases (Although this difference is only measurable in hundred-thousands of a second, at 5000 RPM, they can add up). This avoids the "doughnut" shaped flame front created by standard spark plug electrodes.á This is achieved in the E3 design through the open section at the top of the ground electrode.á E3 spark plugs combine the benefits of additional sharp electrode edges with a cut-back electrode design used on some racing spark plugs.á The increase of available edge-to-edge surface area encourages a more rapid spark discharge while also reducing quenching and shadowing.á The three legs that support the special geometry of E3's automotive plug ground electrode aid in heat dissipation for longer electrode life.á The center electrode on E3 spark plugs is created from a nickel alloy with a copper center core for both improved conductivity as well as heat dissipation.
Amazon.com Product Description
| E3 Automotive spark plugs are a clear breakthrough in spark plug technology. Developed by researchers from leading engineering universities, E3's patented electrode design allows for a better spark, and resulting more complete flame kernal and flame front extending off the electrode, producing better overall localized pressure inside your vehicle's cylinders. This in turn leads to the fuel/air mixture injected into the cylinder being more cleanly consumed, lessening the level of greenhouse gases emitted, increasing energy efficiency and generating more horsepower. A breakthrough in spark plug technology. View larger. | DiamondFire electrode design increases cylinder combustion. View larger. | More power and better fuel efficiency, with fewer emissions. View larger. | Why You Need E3 Spark Plugs As the designated catalyst for the ignition of fuel in gasoline powered cars, trucks, motorcycles and small engines, spark plugs are a small, but constant factor in the workings of the vast majority of motorists on the road. What these motorists may not know is that their choice of spark plug could play a significant role in reducing the level of greenhouse gases that their vehicles give off, as well as increasing overall fuel economy and potential power output. This is where E3 Spark Plug's DiamondFire technology comes in. DiamondFire Technology For the last 100 years, the only real advance in consumer spark plug technology has been to develop ways to make them cheaper. E3 Spark Plug's DiamondFire technology changes all of that through an improved electrode design that provides for more efficient burning of your vehicle's air/fuel vapor, leading to more pressure in the cylinder. These improvements are measurable, confirmed and based on the following design elements found in existing performance spark plugs. First, the DiamondFire electrode directs the flame kernel to the piston more directly, reducing the travel time from the spark zone to the end gases via the open section at the top of the electrode. Given the short time available to get combustion started, the faster you can get the flame to the piston, the better. Second, the physical features of the electrode project further forward into the combustion chamber. This brings the spark zone closer to areas of probable "good" air/fuel mixture and also creates beneficial "micro-aerodynamics" within the spark zone. The initial combustion wave leaves the spark area at supersonic speeds above Mach 1, and the elevated edge provides a kind of chimney effect so the next round of air/fuel mixture gets into the spark zone more easily. Finally, the E3 electrode design features forced edge-to-edge spark discharge, which is the best way to get a spark to leave a surface. This improves upon the phenomena that drove race car drivers to "cut back" ordinary electrode spark plugs in order to improve the spark discharge. The spark itself occurs only when an avalanche of electrons migrates from the two electrodes (anode to cathode). Sharp edges are better at initiating electron migrations, and these accelerated electrons collide with matter inside the spark zone to release additional electrons. This design ensures that the whole population of electrons works to create a plasma channel through which the spark current flows more easily, resulting in an increase in both power output and fuel economy, while reducing emissions in gasoline engines and the build up of carbon deposits on engine surfaces. Key Features: - DiamondFire electrode technology that creates a superior spark and resulting flame front extending further into the cylinder, producing more localized pressure.
- Power increased > 6% to 12% (depending on engine class).
- Fuel efficiency improved > 4% to 13% (depending on engine class).
- Emissions reduced in 2 and 4-stroke engines (after 50 hours).
- 58% CO emissions reduction.
- 42% hydrocarbon reduction.
- Near elimination of performance inhibiting carbon deposits.
- Dramatically longer plug life.
- 5-year/100,000 mile limited warranty.

E3 in S10 2.2 Liter June 1, 2008 David Schnoebelen (Kalona, IA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a 2000 Chevy S10 2.2 liter auto trans running on E85 that the E3 spark plugs went into. With the old spark plugs, driving 55 mph commuting daily to work 35 miles round trip the S10 was getting 19.7 mpg. With the E3 spark plugs the S10 is getting 21.8 mpg. It feels like there is slightly more power available. For so little money invested in these spark plugs I can't think of anything else you can do to get such big returns in gas savings
Improved mileage October 7, 2008 Ben Hound (Wisconsin) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I replaced the original plugs in a car with 100,000 miles. The car does seem to have a bit more power and has better pickup at low rpm with a manual transmission. It clearly gets better mileage than it ever has, estimated at about 5% to 10% improvement which is very worthwhile. They also cost about the same as the OEM replacement, so there is no real downside to these plugs. The package says they will last 100,000 miles, but that is unknown for a while. My 4 cyl. engine was very easy to install, however many 6 cyl. and 8 cyl. engines are very difficult and time consuming to install. If you can do it yourself this is very worthwile, however it may not make sense to have a mechanic replace the plugs unless they are due anyway. These plugs work as advertised and it seems odd that new cars do not come with plugs like these.
Sparked October 9, 2008 K. Stinson 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I put these plugs in a 2003 Malibu LS and it runs great. Prior it had hesitation and gas mileage was ok, but the E3's have smoothed out the acceleration and I'm not stepping on the pedal to get up to speed. This adds up to improved gas mileage.
I've since purchased another set for my Blazer and waiting for them to arrive so I can put them in.

after i change the autolight plugs to the E3/62 in my 1996 chev cavaliar 2.4 eng reset
the computer 25 miles later there was more power on highway ramp takeoff smooth take off and more power on passing I rate it *****,AND I will buy 4 more my 95 prizum to bring the power back.
More power! More gas mileage? May 16, 2008 Murphy Watson (Lake Jackson, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I installed these spark plugs along with new wires and a K&N Air filter to try to get better gas milage out of my 99 Silverado with a 4.8 V8.
I noticed the truck had more power but gas milage was around 15.5 MPG and now getting 16 MPG. Not as much as I hoped for but if I were to do it over I would still purchased these plugs.
